What is a target value?

In machine-learning, a target value is an output value to a supervised learning problem.

Indeed, in typical scenarios, the dataset () consists of pairs where is a -dimensional vector of inputs and is called the output value.

Other names for the output values are:

  • targets,
  • labels,
  • responses,
  • outcomes,
  • dependent variables,
  • endogenous variables,
  • measured variables,
  • regressands.
